Château de la Ville-Huë: Loïc Boisnard’s rooftop library

At Guer in Morbihan, the Château de la Ville-Huë has hosted an extraordinary collection by Loïc Boisnard: over 200 samples of historic slates, tracing the evolution of Breton roofing from the 13th century to the present day.

More than two hundred samples of historic slates, meticulously catalogued, documented and classified: this is the collection that Loïc Boisnard, master slater and Compagnon du Devoir, presented at the Château de la Ville-Huë in Guer, Morbihan, during the 2026 European Heritage Days. The artisan, who describes himself as a ‘roofing archaeologist’, also includes historic tools, stones from long-abandoned slate quarries and photographic archives of now-defunct extraction sites.
