Jaulny: a European volunteer project restores the keep's stonework

Until 30 September 2026, eight young volunteers from several countries are chiselling stone under the guidance of a master mason at Jaulny Castle in Meurthe-et-Moselle, a week after the public opening of the site.

Eight pairs of hands, eight different backgrounds, and one stone to reshape: since mid-September and until 30 September 2026, an international volunteer project has taken up residence at Jaulny Castle in Meurthe-et-Moselle. Under the guidance of a master mason, these young volunteers from across Europe are learning the art of stone carving while working directly on the site’s masonry. The initiative follows another, more traditional opening on 6 September, which allowed the public to discover the progress of the works—two ways, within a week of each other, to welcome visitors to a site that had previously been reserved for professionals.
