At the end of April 2026, Château de la Commaraine in Pommard, Côte-d'Or, opened its doors in a groundbreaking new guise after nine centuries of existence: that of a luxury hotel. Backed by the Champagne Hospitality group, already behind the Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa, the 37-room and suite establishment boasts a rare asset few hotels can claim: a 3.63-hectare monopole clos in Pommard Premier Cru, cultivated biodynamically and directly accessible from the château’s gardens.

A fortified château built by Duke Eudes in 1112
The site’s history dates back to 1112, the year the original fortified château was constructed by Duke Eudes of Burgundy. In 1193, Eudes III of Burgundy gifted it to Jean de Pommard. The fortress later passed through marriage to the Saulx family in 1376, before undergoing a major reconstruction from 1610 onwards that largely gave it its current appearance: a U-shaped plan flanked by corner towers, with two-storey square towers topped with hipped roofs in flat tiles, and a round tower at the north-eastern corner. The estate subsequently passed into the hands of notable owners such as Vincent Micault, then the Marey-Monge family, each of whom built their own châteaux to the south of the village, making Pommard a commune that today boasts three distinct châteaux.

Two Meilleur Ouvrier de France chefs and a myBlend spa
The hotel’s design places a premium on high-end gastronomy, with two restaurants under the direction of Christophe Raoux and Jérôme Rioux, both Meilleur Ouvrier de France recipients, who showcase Burgundian cuisine. For wellness, a partnership with the myBlend brand has resulted in three treatment rooms, a hammam, a sauna, a cold plunge pool and a jacuzzi, complemented by a dedicated haircare space. An 18-metre swimming pool overlooking the vineyards offers residents an unrivalled view over the surrounding vineyards.

A monopole clos in biodynamics at the heart of the establishment
The hotel’s standout feature is its seamless integration into the vineyard: the château boasts a 3.63-hectare monopole clos classified as Pommard Premier Cru, cultivated according to biodynamic principles. An integrated winery allows guests to take part directly in winegrowing activities, from cellar tours to tastings, in an estate where vines and luxury hospitality now coexist closely, nine centuries after the first fortress was built by Duke Eudes.
