Salses Fortress: After Netflix, a modernised visitor experience
Following its appearance in Netflix’s series Néro with Pio Marmaï, the Salses Fortress in the Pyrénées-Orientales has completed a £420,000 modernisation project: free access to the keep, tactile model, and audio guides from November.

Visitors to Salses Fortress in the Pyrénées-Orientales can now explore the keep—previously reserved for guided tours—without restriction. This is the most visible aspect of a £420,000 modernisation project led by the Centre des monuments nationaux, transforming the Catalan stronghold into a family-friendly destination with a tactile model, immersive space, and multilingual audio guides launching in November. The overhaul owes much to an unexpected boost in popularity from Netflix: parts of the series Néro, starring Pio Marmaï, were filmed here in 2024, before its October 2025 release.
