Bonaguil: £700,000 to save the fortress’s roof before it’s too late
Deprived of a roof over much of its structure since the French Revolution, Bonaguil Castle in Lot-et-Garonne is launching an emergency project to halt water infiltration. Funding comes from the Loto du Patrimoine, private sponsorship and regional aid.

A large portion of Bonaguil Castle has lacked a roof since the French Revolution. Two and a half centuries later, this absence is directly threatening the monument’s structure: rainwater seepage is weakening masonry that was never designed to remain exposed for so long. The municipality of Fumel, which owns the site, has just launched a £700,000 emergency restoration project to address the issue, with support from the Loto du Patrimoine.
