Château du Tour: the 2026 Loto du Patrimoine comes to the rescue of a thousand-year-old site

Razed during the Albigensian Crusade and then rebuilt in the 15th century, the Château du Tour, in Prades in the Tarn, has been added to the 2026 Loto du Patrimoine list as two of its towers threaten to collapse and its 17th-century balustrade has been looted.

Two towers threatening to collapse, a 17th-century balustrade that has been looted, and gate pillars eroded by damp: this is the state in which the Château du Tour, in Prades in the Tarn, was added to the 2026 Loto du Patrimoine list on 17 September 2026. The exact amount of the grant has not yet been announced—the Fondation du patrimoine will reveal it at the end of the year based on the game’s proceeds—but the selection marks a turning point for a building continuously occupied for a millennium.
