Chouvigny: the 13th-century keep opens for Heritage Open Days

Perched 80 metres above the Sioule gorges in the Allier, the Château de Chouvigny will exceptionally open its doors on 20 September 2026: a cylindrical keep from the 13th century, a watchtower and a collection of medieval weapons.

Perched on a rocky outcrop some 80 metres above the Sioule gorges, the Château de Chouvigny will reopen its doors on Sunday 20 September 2026, from 2pm to 6pm, for European Heritage Days. After its summer visiting season, which closed on 23 August, this is the only autumn opportunity to discover its 13th-century cylindrical keep and its collection of medieval weapons and armour, set within a landscape shaped by successive owners—from the La Fayette family to the Duke of Morny—over nearly eight centuries.
