Saint-Martin de Toques: the awakening of a little-known château in the Corbières

Perched on a promontory in the Corbières, the château de Saint-Martin de Toques, in Bizanet (Aude), will exceptionally open its doors during the 2026 Heritage Open Days, following decades of almost no public access. The story of a little-known medieval ruin.

You’ll need to follow a hiking trail through the garrigue of the Corbières, above Bizanet, to catch sight of the crenellated curtain walls and towers of the château de Saint-Martin de Toques. Few visitors know its name, overshadowed as it is by the grand Cathar fortresses nearby. On 18, 19 and 20 September 2026, as part of the European Heritage Open Days, this privately owned château will open its doors to the public for the first time in decades under the banner of ‘The Awakening of the château de Saint-Martin de Toques’. A phrase that does not herald a dramatic restoration project, but something far rarer: the chance, at last, to step inside.
